Last week, we had the great pleasure of photographing the beautiful children and families (and staff and volunteers too!) at the Asbury Children’s Supper Hour.
The Asbury Children’s Supper Hour provides meals and a safe environment to the children of the local east side neighborhood and allows the kids to participate in positive activities with mentors and volunteers each day after school.
I have been familiar with the supper hour for many years since my grandmother, who passed away in 2004, was a member of Asbury Methodist Church and used to volunteer at the supper hour. I have very vivid memories of playing at the church with other attendees of the supper hour when I was little!
Anyway, so as I’ve mentioned before, Evan and I are members of Young Philanthropists within the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln (formerly the Sangamon County Community Foundation), which gives an annual grant to a community organization, usually with a focus on children and youth. This year, I was on the grant committee and for the second time, we chose the Asbury Children’s Supper Hour as the grant recipient. During the grant reception, I connected with Vicki Potter, the incredible director of the supper hour, and from that conversation, we brainstormed about doing this very special photo shoot with the children, so that their families would be able to enjoy beautiful photographs of their children.
It was such an inspiring project for me, and during the day of shoot, we had an absolute blast. The kids were so cooperative and fun to hang out with, and after they opened up to the idea of the shoot, they were so excited to ham it up for the camera and loved seeing the images on the screen after :)
We got so many beautiful images, and I wanted to share a few of my favorites…

We want to send a big THANK YOU out to the supper hour staff and children for allowing us this privilege!
